Best Tips for a Successful Engagement Session
It happens to the best of us. The camera comes out and we become deer in headlights. And this doesn’t make for the best photo session, let alone a good one. But do not fear! Following these tips will lead to a successful engagement session, where your family and friends will be able to feel your love and excitement right through the pictures! And remember, as professional photographers, we will also be doing everything in our power to set you up for success!
Ask questions and be precise.
When looking for a photographer, make sure to ask questions. Be sure to describe your vision and if you prefer a certain style, such as more formal and posed, or more candid and natural. Asking questions and being precise will ensure that both parties are on the same page and that you align with each other.
Pick a location that has meaning.
Whether it be the park where you first met, or the restaurant you first exchanged I love you’s, pick a location that has meaning for both of you. You will naturally feel at ease and joy being there, and that will show in your photos.
Timing is everything.
This is something your photographer can help with. You want to make sure the lighting is just right, and that depends on the time of day. Most likely you will be heading out just before sunrise or just before sunset.
Hair and makeup.
If you are planning to do a hair and makeup trial for the wedding day, we recommend planning it for the same day as your engagement session, that way you are already ready for the camera!
Plan your wardrobe.
Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean you need to match your partner. We just encourage coordinating your outfits to create the best look on camera. You also want to feel comfortable and confident in what you choose. Lacking inspiration? We suggest heading over to Pinterest for some great ideas! Trust your photographer. Being photographers, we can’t stress this enough. If you have booked with professional photographers, then they will be doing research on their end regarding things like props and poses. Trust the creative process and trust your photographer. This will make for the best photos.
Have fun.
Ultimately, this session is about celebrating your engagement and creating memories to share and to keep. Have fun with your partner and enjoy yourself. Your smiles and enjoyment will shine through your photos, creating a successful engagement session.
